about

Tucson Arizona Songwriter Carlos Arzate wrote The Ballad of Louis Taylor based on the true events surrounding the life and false imprisonment of Louis Taylor. At 16 years of age, Louis Taylor was wrongfully convicted of starting the Pioneer Hotel fire in Tucson Arizona in 1970 that tragically resulted in loss of life for 28 people. Widely considered one of the largest tragedies in Tucson history.

Despite evidence that Louis was in fact considered a hero by some for helping police officers evacuate people to safety that night, he was convicted by an "all white" jury of committing the crime and sentenced to life in prison.

42 years later he was released due to the tireless efforts of the Arizona Justice Project which took up his case and negotiated his released based on modern fire science and blatant evidence of case mismanagement based on race.

Half of all proceeds from the purchase of this track will go to The Arizona Project who works as a voice to the voiceless for the release of those who have been wrongly accused yet are still serving time in prison.
